Should my letter of interest include design ideas?
No, the letter of interest should explain your interest in the project and qualifications to complete the project. Design proposals will be only requested from the selected finalist(s). See selection process.
How tall can it be? Is there a requested height?
There is no height requirement, the artwork should be designed specifically for this location.
What happens if the cost to create and install the sculpture comes to more than $30K? Or is that an automatic rejection if it's a possibility?
The total Budget is $30,000. The selected finalists will be responsible for preparing a detailed budget, inclusive of all costs (artist fees, engineering, insurance, materials, fabrication, storage and delivery, and installation) with their proposal. The selected Artist will be responsible for completing the installation within the available budget, there are no additional funds available.
When do we submit our entries? Before 9pm November 22?
Qualifications are due by 9pm [EST] on November 22, 2022. Qualifications may not be submitted after 9:00 pm [EST] on November 22, 2022.
I would like to know if the Public Art Project is open to international artists and what type of artworks would be preferable ? ( Murals / sculptures / installations )
The Call for Art is seeking an installation or sculpture that can be incorporated into the public space described in the Call for Art and depicted in the site photographs. The scale and medium are to be at the discretion of the Artist or Artist Team and shall be feasible within the available budget.
I have attached my Portfolio with my previous projects and information. Feel free to look at it and let me know if i will be acceptable to apply for this project?
We are unable to assess individual portfolios to assess eligibility. Please refer to the eligibility criteria to determine if you are eligible.
Is the budget including the art work , installation and artist fee?
Yes, the $30,000 budget is for the Artist Fees, insurance, design (including engineering if required), materials, fabrication, storage, delivery, and installation.
I'd love to see the revision plans for the site. It will help me better understand the project. Can you share a link with us for the revision plans?
Site improvmeents plans are underway and will be finalized in the comming months. The improvemetns plans will be made available to the selected Finalists. Applicants can assume the planting bed will be adjusted to be level with the surrounding curb (currently mounded), the longer concrete wall (abutting the planting area) will be removed, the shorter concrete wall will remaing and be cleaned (mosaic removed), and the pavement within the circular area will be replaced with a new material.
Will the large round planters remain?
The round seasonal planters will not remain on site.
Is it correct to assume that the artwork footprint would be more or less restricted to the area where soil will be?
Yes, the installation is to be located within the existing planting area.
Wil the artist budget cover foundations as well?
No, the foundations will be installed by the site contractor as part of the site construction proejct.
Is there a final landscaping design at stage 2?
The 90% complete construction drawings will be made avialable to the selected Finalists and will include the planting design, hardscape material selections, and site furnishings.
We are an architectural firm for the past 25 years. We have not done outdoor installations. Do we qualify?
Architects are eligible to submit. Qualifications will be judged against the criteria: Past Work and Statement of Interest. All Artists and Artist Team must demonstrate that they are qualified to design, build, and install. For example, an Architect may be qualified to design and choose to include a team member qualified for fabrication and installation.
Question about uploading previous work: Can I submit individual jpgs + a PDF image list? Or does everything need to be in a single PDF?
We prefer a single PDF, but will accept individual jpegs and a PDF image list.
The qualifications form is not working, is there another way to submit my materials?
We strongly encourage using Google Chrome, other browsers may experience significant submittal delays and/or an unsuccessful submittal. If you are still having issues, please send an email to [email protected] and we will coordinate other means for your qualifications submittal.
Does the proposed artwork need to be a three-dimensional sculpture? Or would it be possible to install it as a mural-type work on one of the buildings near the designated area?
